The Invitation is like other dresses that I have made: a dress in a vinyl bag, covered in a biodegradable material, and soil. In this piece, the dress is floating above the ground. It has been dyed and dipped in Oregon grape. The seeds, and grape skins are interwoven into the lace at the bottom of the dress. It hovers over an accumulation of dried swamp roses resting on the soil.
The other dresses in this series were meant to decompose over time, nuturing and returning to the soil it is placed in. This piece floats, in hesitation. The dress’s own fabric has been branded with sacrifice, stained with grapes, the flesh on the hem. The dried flowers mimic the contours of the dress, showing a pattern that is rooted in their existence.
